With hectic work schedules & irregular eating habits, Palas Panja, a Senior Manager with an IT Major in Bangalore, was diagnosed as a diabetic on 28th April 2016. Palas had read about Lifespan & heard about them through one of his friends who was already taking treatment there. He went to the Lifespan clinic on 30th April. His doctor at Lifespan put him on a combination of Insulin and tablets. He had to take 14 units of the Insulin dose once a day. “Reaching the top is easy but sustaining there is the tougher part. But Lifespan has made that easy for me”.
On 30th of April his HbA1c was 13.3. Now it has gone down to 6.5. His doctor is very happy & asked him how did he manage his diabetes? And Mr Panja’s answer is, “Well it’s all in your head. I strictly adhered the treatment advise”
“Physically I might not be very active but my mind is super active. Your life does not end because your sugar levels have gone high. It’s just a trigger to show that hey you’re going off-track, come back on track” says a very optimistic Palas.
His family & office colleagues are aware of his high sugar levels. He is more relaxed now as he tries to finish all his official work by planning in advance. He starts the day with a brisk 45-minute walk which peps him up for the rest of the day. Listening to music and some playtime with his daughter are great stress busters for him.
“I still remember starting off with 14 units of that insulin shot but today I’M OFF MY INSULIN and thanks to the Full Care Treatment at Lifespan” says a very content Palas.
“Diabetes in not the end, it’s a new beginning to a healthier lifestyle” believes Mr. Palas Panja.

As the chairman and MD of a popular computer hardware and networking institute, Suresh G Bharwani leads a busy life. Constantly being on the move and training students means erratic work hours and hectic schedules. At 62 though, he seems to be in remarkable good health at first glance. However, Bharwani was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes four years ago.
Hereditary diabetes:
While he was upset that he had been diagnosed with diabetes, he wasn’t surprised. After all, he had family history of diabetes — his father was a diabetic and had died of a heart attack. His aunt, a diabetic, developed gangrene and had her leg amputated. His cousin, too, died at an early age after having his fingers amputated due to diabetes. Bharwani then realised the importance of changing his lifestyle. Having undergone an angiography after being diagnosed with diabetes and also suffering from palpitation, constipation, numbness in the shoulders and acute stress due to problems in his professional life, he was aware of the complications that a diabetic has to face.
Unique treatment:
“I knew the damage that diabetes can cause to the vital organs especially the kidneys, heart, liver and eyes. I used to wait in long queues to meet a doctor, who would give me only five minutes to explain my health problems. How is a person supposed to understand all problems in just that little time?” said Bharwani.
This is when he decided to visit Lifespan. “My journey here has been a wonderful one. I still remember first day when I visited the clinic. I am very particular about hygiene and the atmosphere, in the neat and clean clinic, was positive and welcoming. I was put under treatment with Dr Mitali Joshi, who checked my reports and asked questions to understand my health status. She also explained the R.I.S.C test, which comprises no pricking. Within seven minutes you get to know everything that is happening in your body. The R.I.S.C. Test actually gave me indications about my health condition. Most importantly, it alerted me on my future health risks. This test is ideal for people like me who are tired of multiple pricks,” he added.
For the past 11 months, Dr Mitali has been meticulously working on him and giving him alternative medicines. Additionally, she encouraged him to practice yoga, meditation and pranayam. “I’ve been on a disciplined regimen where I go for my 45 minutes walk without my mobile phone. I also carry a mat along to practice some breathing exercises and yoga for 30 minutes. I’ve noticed an increase in my strength and energy levels. Recommendations by my doctor helped me tremendously. I’ve been on Lifespan’s Full Care Annual Plan that includes all tests and unlimited doctor visits. The clinic reschedules appointments if you need to cancel it for some reason,” he says.
All facilities under one roof:
Bharwani was also happy to meet the CEO and founder of Lifespan, Ashok Jain, a diabetic himself since the past 22 years. “Although he isn’t a doctor, Ashok took up this initiative to put an end to a diabetics trouble and get everything under one roof. The best part is that Lifespan has so many in house equipment. A diabetic doesn’t have to keep running around for blood tests, thyroid, lipid profile, fasting and PP, HbA1C etc. Blood collection can be done at home. In fact, even the reports are sent to you, which you can check them from the comfort of your home. Today, I am off my medicines. Ironically, I was always told that I would never be able to get off medicines all my life. What a relief it is not to take medication anymore. It is important for diabetics to take extremely good care of themselves. Doctor visits are a must for this,” ends Bharwani with a smile.
